Summer Programs at the Glenview History Center

The Dukes of Hazzard’s Tom Sarmento, General Lee’s Mechanic will visit the Glenview History Center this Saturday at 2 PM.

Tom Sarmento grew up in Glenview and worked as a mechanic for The Dukes of Hazzard’s bright orange muscle car from 1979-1985. He'll share his experiences working on the hit CBS show.

The Farmhouse will be open for tours after the program.

Glenview History Center May Luncheon

The Glenview History Center is hosting its annual spring luncheon on Saturday, May 11 at the Chateau Ritz.

Enjoy a 1950s fashion show and enter the raffle to win prizes donated by local businesses.

All proceeds go to support the Glenview History Center and to help keep local history thriving in Glenview!

Abraham Lincoln at Glenview History Center

In celebration of Illinois' 200th Anniversary, the Glenview History Center will present the feature film Abraham Lincoln from 1930 starring Walter Huston. The movie will begin at 7 PM on the grounds of the Glenview History Center and a donation of $5 per family is suggested. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket.

Discover the Hidden History of Camp Skokie

Camp Skokie Valley Headquarters from the Winnetka Historical Society

This Sunday, Beverly Dawson will present the hidden history of Camp Skokie at the Glenview History Center. Camp Skokie Valley began as a tent camp for workers from the CCC and eventually housed the 740th Military Police Battalion. During the latter years of WWII, Camp Skokie became a German POW camp.

The program begins at 2 PM in the Hibbard Library and a donation of $5 is suggested. Afterwards you are welcome to tour the Victorian farmhouse!

Chicago, Milwaukee, St Paul & Pacific Railroad History

Join us at the Glenview History Center to learn about Glenview's place in railroad history!

Bob Storozuk, president of the Milwaukee Road Historical Association, will will discuss the history of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St Paul & Pacific Railroad -- with special emphasis on Glenview.

This program will be on Sunday, May 20th at 2 PM at the Hibbard Library at the Glenview History Center. A suggested donation of $5 is appreciated.

America Goes to War: WWI Draft Registration Cards

Join us this Sunday at 2 PM for a discussion of the Selective Service Act of 1917 at the Glenview History Center.

WWI at the Glenview History Center

Visit the Glenview History Center on August 13th and hear living historian Christopher Allen Irelan discuss Marine Corps and their equipment in the Great War.

This event will be at the Hibbard Library at 2 PM.

Learn About the Grove's Founders

This Sunday at 2 PM at the Hibbard Library, Elizabeth Kopp will discuss the Kennicotts, the Grove and their contributions to our country. Afterwards, the Glenview History Center will host a tour of their historic farmhouse. Find more information here!

Summertime at the Hibbard Library

Celebrate Summertime at the Hibbard Library. This summer the Glenview History Center will be holding programs at the Hibbard Library each month.

This June visit the History Center and learn about the history of Wagner Farm and the Wagner Family! Christine Shiel, volunteer coordinator of Wagner Farm, will tell us about Tom Wagner and the last remaining and operating farm in Glenview. Afterwards you are welcome to tour the Glenview History Center farmhouse.

Glenview History Center

The Farmhouse at the Glenview History Center opens today!

Built in 1864 by Sarah Hutchings, the farmhouse was home to the Hutchings, Schur and Homan families. It is one of the oldest houses in Glenview. The GHC maintains the house and exhibits antique furniture, textiles, and objects which reflect life in Glenview between the Civil War and World War II.

You can visit the Farmhouse on weekends throughout the summer.

Glenview History Center Annual Tea

Join the Glenview History Center on Saturday, March 18, for the Jackie O. Luncheon. Leslie Godard will portray Jacqueline Kennedy and share the story of her life in the White House and the death of John F. Kennedy.

Glenview History Center

The historic farmhouse at the Glenview History Center is open again for the season. You can visit the house on Sundays from 1:00-4:00 PM.

One of the oldest homes in Glenview, Sarah Hutchings built the farmhouse in 1864. The Glenview History Center has furnished the property to reflect life in Glenview across different time periods.

The Hibbard Library is also open year-round on Tuesdays from 1:00-4:00 PM for researchers interested in Glenview history.

GHC Annual Meeting

The Glenview History Center is holding its annual meeting on October 24th.

This year's speaker is Douglas Stiles, a great-great-grandson of watchmaker Jonathan Dillon. According to family legend, Mr. Dillon secretly engraved a message on Abraham Lincoln’s pocket watch at the beginning of the Civil War. Mr. Stiles’ research led to the verification of family story.

GHC Cemetery Walk

Come learn more about several of the founding members of Northfield Township this Sunday at the old St. Peter's Cemetery. Members of the Glenview History Center and the Northbrook Historical Society will be presenting a walking tour of the cemetery and will be sharing stories and portraying figures from the township's history.

The cemetery is located on Shermer Road between West Lake Avenue and Willow Road. Performances are at 1pm and 2:30pm.

GHC Civil War Encampment

The Glenview History Center's Annual Civil War Encampment is this weekend!

Stop by the History Center at 1121 Waukegan Road this Saturday and Sunday between 9am and 4pm.

Enjoy living history presented by the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War US Signal Corps & 1st Michigan Engineers; Luther E. Johnson, African American Historical Military Reenactors; General George Thomas, Commanding General Army of the Cumberland; and Jessica Michna portraying Mary Ann "Mother Bickerdyke. Also enjoy a traveling Civil War Museum & Fashion exhibit.

Donations are $5/Individual or $10/Family.
